Why we ask for a deposit: Building a farm requires real commitment. Your ₹2,000 deposit helps us know how many families we're growing for. It's fully refundable — if you change your mind, if we don't launch this season, or if our crop list doesn't suit your family.
I grew up around the farmlands of Bihar. My father and uncle kept a small patch of land in front of our government quarters — tomatoes, brinjal, beans, methi, whatever the season allowed. I watched things grow. I helped pull weeds. I remember the taste of food that came out of soil I could point to.
Then life took a different turn. Eleven years of engineering took me far from any field — most recently to Microsoft, working out of Dublin. Becoming a parent brought back the old question — what is my child actually eating? Every time I bought "organic" vegetables, I couldn't verify what that label meant. The Indian supply chain is opaque even when the packaging is glossy.
The only way to truly know what's in your food is to know where it came from — the specific farm, the specific soil, the specific person who grew it. That's how it used to be. That's how I think it should be again.
Makai is what happens when an engineer who grew up near farmland comes home to the question that started everything. I'm building it small, building it honest. One farm. A few families.
